Saya, the last true vampire, battles the bloodthirsty demons attacking an American base in Japan during the Vietnam War. Much of the story takes place during the late afternoon and evening, and the artists use shadows, reflections, and light with exceptional skill: the look of the film is more interesting than the underdeveloped story. Saya wields a deadly sword and pursues her foes with chilling ferocity, but she’s silent and sullen and fails to develop as a character: the viewer has no idea how she views her deadly occupation. Albeit a visually striking film, this dark, violent work fails to live up to its billing as “Japan’s first fully digital animated feature film”: the three-dimensional objects and effects are digital, but the two-dimensional characters are hand-drawn. Nor is the film really “from the creators of Ghost in the Shell.” Blood came out of a group that Ghost director Mamoru Oshii organized to encourage young talent, but he didn’t direct it. And at 48 minutes, it’s very short for a feature, although this edition includes a rambling 21-minute making-of film and a 3-minute trailer. It seems unlikely that Blood “will transform Japanese animation,” but other artists may use its visual style to tell more compelling stories with better-developed characters.     I HAD SEEN THIS MOVIE FOR SEVERAL MONTH AGO, BUT I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE. EVENTHOUGH THE CG AND 2D ANIMATION SKILL CAN COMBINE ALMOST PERFECTLY, BUT I THINK THE STORY IS TOO POOR. I THINK THE SKILL THEY USE IS THE FUTURE PROCESS OF ANIMATION WORLD, BECAUSE CG CAN NOT REPLACE ALL 2D ANIMATION. BUT I THINK THIS SKILL IS NOT THE LASTET SKILL. THIS MOVIE JUST MAKE THOSE TWO ELEMENTS LOOK BETTER. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. BECAUSE OF THE POOR STORY, THIS MOVIE CAN NOT MAKE VIEWER SEE THIS MOVIE SECOND TIMES,THAT IS WHY I ONLY GAVE THIS MOVIE 3 STAR.

    FIRST AND FOR MOST THE PEOPLE WHO KEEP SAYING IT’S TOO SHORT AT THE BACK OF THE CASE IT SAYS IN CLEAR ENGLISH 45 MIN. EITHER YOU DIDNT READ IT WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT OR YOU DOWNLOADED IT ONLINE AND FIGURED OUT THE TIME LENGTH AFTER YOU WATCHED IT.OK NOW FOR THE REVIEW YES THERE IS NOT MUCH DEVELOPEMENT WITH ANY CHARACTERS INCLUDING SAYA(MAIN CHARACTER) BUT IT STILL MAKES UP FOR GOOD ACTION SCENES AND KICK ASS ANIMATION WHICH MOST WOULD AGREE.(BIG SPOILER)……TO THOSE WHO SAY THEY NEVER EXPLAINED WHY SHE IS THE LAST ONE AND WHY SHE IS MAD AT THOSE MONSTERS IS BECAUSE THEY KILLED HER WHOLE FAMILY HERE IT IS IN MATH TERMS. ‘DEAD FAMILY+(LAST FAMILY MEMBER)SAYA’=ONE PISSED OFF LITTLE GIRL.THAT SUMMARIZES MY REVIEW TO THOSE HATERS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL CONFUSED ABOUT PICKING THIS ONE UP OR NOT.

    the ONLY reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars was the shortness of it (47 minutes) and a problem that won’t affect you if you order it here, (I got my copy in Chinatown in San Francisco..so the Menu wasn’t in English either) but I got used to it and the story is wonderful…you ALMOST don’t even need subtitles…I hate bad English dubs at first I looked wondering if I had screwed up the settings but noticed the words actuallyt matched the lips moving (yes in a cartoon!!!) At first I had mixed feelings about it but as time went on it made more and more sense an American Base in Japan (off base Japanesse was spoken…on base, English) made the already realistic CGI-based animation even more realistic…..like I said though due to it’s brevity, charactor development could be better….but at the costs of the animation I could see why it was so short….some scenes I REALLY had to look HARD to tell it wasn’t photograph footage…

    First of all, let me say that I’m not a big anime fan. I’ve watched a few of these films, but I just can’t get into this stuff. “Blood” is okay, but it’s not that great. There isn’t much to work with here other than a few demonic vampires and some explosions. The characters are underdeveloped, the story is weak, and the entire film moves at a snails pace(which is bad since this flick’s only about forty-five minutes long). The main character-the lady vampire killer-is never developed well enough to let you understand what makes her tick.

    I agree with another reviewer that had this been a pilot for a series, it would work rather well. It leaves many unanswered questions and, as stated before, the characters just aren’t developed well enough.

    In closing, if you are a huge anime fan, go ahead and buy this. It will not add anything to your collection, but you may want to keep a copy around just in case you find yourself with a little time to kill. If you’re just curious about anime, like myself, don’t bother with this one. There’s nothing convincing contained herein.
