Product Description
Set several decades after the events in the popular Blood: The Last Vampire anime film, an amnesiac Saya Otonashi lives as a seemingly normal high school student with her adoptive family in Okinawa. Horrible nightmares are the only hints at the violent life she once led, but her past is about to catch up with her and awaken the merciless warrior within. Chiropterans – powerful shape-changing creatures who need and crave blood – threaten humanity once more, and a mysterious organization called the Red Shield needs Saya’s deadly sword skills and mysterious powers to aid in the fight against these beasts. As her submerged abilities begin to reawaken and as she seeks to regain her memories, Chiropteran warriors are guided by a mysterious leader to threaten Saya and her loved ones. Asuka Katsura’s manga series successfully expands upon the original Production I.G./Aniplex feature, delivering moments of jarring violence and thrilling action in a tale that spans several centuries.

The description of this book is totally wrong. This book is more of a spoof of the blood+ series. It was written in Japanese first before the anime came out in Japan to get you ready for the anime. So it is totally not like the anime at all. It is suppose to be a comedy but it isn’t funny at all. So if you’re expecting a manga about the anime this book isn’t for you. Buy the Blood+ first kiss instead.

Blood+ Volume 1 (Blood +)
I am a big fan of Blood: The Last Vampire and Blood+ the DVD. This book was a very poor version of the Blood+ DVD. It did not capture the characters’ personalities well, and left me feeling bad about the story. The artwork was crude and unappealing.

I thought it would have been more interesting knowing it is a manga and all. For those who are not much into reading novels, the manga will probably be more enjoyable. The images were not appealing at all being a manga you would think the pictures would be more detailed. It was disappointing as far as I am concerned. I prefer the novel, it has a better read and feel to it than the manga.

Blood+ is a manga that is very different from the anime. It has it’s own spin on the tale. Yes the whole series is released now, but I am still awaiting for the conclusion to Adagio and the one volume Kowloon Nights to see where the story will go. Nevertheless. it is a great series. Now, I will review each section.
CHAPTER 01
This is the only chapter in the book, as each volume is one chapter long. In this first chapter, we get a look at Saya Otonashi’s normal life, going to Koza school and helping out at her dad’s pub, OMORO. We also see her adopted brothers Riku and Kai Miyagusuku. Saya starts off as a regular girl, but slowly changes as things from her past start coming back to her. She feels as though she can’t help anyone, let alone her family. A girl, Mao Jahana, basically forces Saya to play the lead role in Hamletta, a school play. She expects Kai to go to the play if Saya is in it. We also find out that Saya needs regular blood transfusions to keep her powers at bay. DSoon, a Chiropteran attacks her and Kai and Haji enters the fray. She finally awakens her ability to kill Chiropterans. She then realizes she has to save the world from these beasts. When she performs her play, the enemy Charles attacks her. This is continued in Volume 2.
MINI COMICS
A set of six comic strips are given. They are quite humorus.
A NOTE FROM CHIZU HASHII
Chizu Hashii, the Blood+ character designer, sends a note to the artist and author of the manga, Asuka Katsura, as well as his interpretation of Charles.
Altogether, this is a great manga. Four color pages are included. I hope you found this review helpful, and this is a great addition to anyone’s manga collection!

While quite different from the anime in characterizations of all characters (namely, Saya is less uncertain, Kai is more helpful, Hagi is more feeling, David is less caring) and various plot points, I honestly think it makes the whole Blood+ canon richer. The art is quite nice as well, with crisp lines and lots of beautiful contrast. Not to mention, the little 4comas at the end are totally precious
